The Dignity of Conscious Choice
Contribution by: Elena R.
I have been following the discussions on this site with interest and would like to share a reflection. I find it deeply contradictory that our society, which proclaims freedom as its supreme value, then denies individuals their most fundamental freedom: that of consciously deciding their own destiny.
True dignity lies not in prolonging existence at any cost, but in being able to choose how and when to conclude one's journey. It's not about promoting death, but about respecting the freedom of choice of thinking and aware beings.
As Seneca said, what matters is not how long one lives, but how. And this "how" should include the freedom to choose one's ending, with serenity and dignity.
